History
The Bendigo East Bowling Club was
established in 1946 with the inaugural meeting held on 10th October 1946 and
this was attended by 13 gentlemen.
The first President was John Tully
and the Club initially had 21 foundation members and the Bendigo Association
confirmed its support with a donation of 15 pounds.
The first green was sown in March 47
and the original club house was also purchased in that year for 25 pounds.
Previously the building had been used as changing rooms at the nearby
abattoirs.
The green was officially opened by
the Mayor of Bendigo on the 29th January 1949.
The very first pennant team was
selected on the 3rd October 1949 and entered in C Division.
The inaugural Associates meeting was
held on the 9th August 1949 and the initial Associates pennant team was
selected on the 15th November 1949 and by 1953/54 membership had increased
to 70 members.
Over the past 60 years the Clubs
facilities have been upgraded and changed many times and all these
improvements have been undertaken mostly by members on a voluntary basis and
financed with funds raised by our members.
Our first men's pennant was won
1966/67 Division 2 Section 2 (B2 now) and our Associates first premierships
were in 1963/64 when both Division 1 and Div 2 were successful.
